Diary Friday June 14th 2002

Its quite difficult to write about your own event. You don't want to sound overly complacent, on the other had you obviously don't want to criticise your performance. (Of course it was good!!!!) It can be true to say that there are two bands in Milton Keynes that know how to kick out that country and of course that's the Bullfrogs and Memphis Plates. Well with both on the bill, you cant help but tap those boots. Then add the sweet harmonies of Dark Horse then you have a perfect Americana Evening.

There is an absolute phalange of good photo's from the Outlaws night, so I have broken from tradition and did two web pages for the Friday so that they download faster. Make sure you check them both out.

Dark Horse kicked off the evening  with some self penned and more traditional country songs... and I am quite proud of Malcolm.. because now I am 40, I too are allowed to where leather trousers. Mind you I  can talk, when I wear a cowboy hat it makes me look like the Milky Bar Kid's Grandad.

I had been watching other people for most of the week, so when I finally got to play, I wanted to to blast it out of my system. I am sure there are a few more cracks in York House as result of it. Had a traumatic minute when I launched into Bad Bad Leroy brown in the wrong key. Testimony to the musicianship of Richard, Dave and Mac no one even noticed. When I had finished, the Memphis Platelets (Thats our fan club...all two of them!!!) brought out a cake with 40 candles on...I don't know why I'm only 21. The last time made me a cake like this I was getting married 20years ago.

Then came the Bullfrogs. I have known Ian and Malcolm a long time and I can quite honestly say that there song writing is exceptional. These days the Bullfrogs do mainly their own songs, but it wouldn't be a Bullfrogs night unless they played the Devil went down to Georgia.. with the delightful Vicky on the Fiddle. Andy Bridgeman had left the Martians down the Fox and largely swapped Nylon for Steel (Thats strings not tights!!) for some real country twang. Then there was a special guest appearance from Mark Prescot  to finish up with the Steve Earle song.. Johnny Come Lately.

Not content with that.. Ian invited the Memphis plates up on stage and we finished with a Grand Finale of Sweet Home Alabama.. As can be seen from the picture I really enjoyed that. My thanks to Pete and Sam on the sound desk, and Jacquie and Dawn (The Platelets) for doing the door and the raffle and of course Bob Adams for the venue.

My Apologies for all the other events.. I didn't get to see them or get any pictures. But if you have any send them to me and I will put them on the web site.

Anyway two more days to go........ :-(
